Nathan Myers

The combination of Nathan Myers’ research interest in state and federal health care policy mixed with his experience as a graduate assistant teaching public administration courses helped prepare Myers for his position as assistant professor at Indiana State University. Myers, who was awarded his Ph.D. in Public Affairs from UNLV in December 2009 began teaching in ISU’s Master of Public Administration program in fall 2010.

Accomplishments
Myers’ teaching interests include organization theory, research methods, and public policy. As a student instructor while in the Public Affairs Ph.D. program, he received the Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching Award in 2008. Other awards included 1st Place in the Humanities Section of the Graduate Student and Professional Association Research Forum, 2007; the Public Administration Graduate Association Academic Award in 2007, and the Greenspun College Scholarship in 2006-2007.

Research Interests
His research interests include program evaluation, and bureaucratic politics and behavior. As a graduate student at UNLV, Myers published commentaries on health care policy issues in the PA Times and he presented research at the Midwest Political Science Association, the Western Political Science Association, and Southwestern Social Science Association annual meetings.  He has published research on the effectiveness of state health care programs in Policy Studies Journal and the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law.

His latest research examines the effect of market-based state health programs on the overall health, economy and medical infrastructure of a state. His dissertation topic was “The Effectiveness and Adoption of Market-Based State Health Care Expansion Programs.”
