A month after earning her Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree from UNLV in August 2009, Leslie Mujica began working for The Westmark Group, an environmental consulting and engineering firm. Mujica is director of business development and government relations. She worked full-time at other jobs while earning her MPA, and said she gained confidence through her associations with other students in her classes who were employed by city and county governmental units. She believes the program created camaraderie among students and the professors, which were great motivators.
Responsibilities
In her job, Mujica is responsible for establishing growth strategies by creating, implementing and managing business development and marketing initiatives, and developing strategic partnerships that advance her employers’ vision and client offerings within the environmental consulting and engineering industries. Mujica enjoys her work and says she is passionate about helping the community, especially during difficult economic times.
Diverse Background
Mujica – who has a BA in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in sociology from California State University, Northridge – has been able to combine her diverse background and work experience for firms in real estate development, construction management, and engineering.
Connections
She believes her position at The Westmark Group is enhanced by the connections and relationships she nurtured while in the MPA program. The title of her group capstone project was “Management Capacity of Local Budget Offices within the State of Nevada.”
